Dr. Steve Running, University of Montana Regents Professor of Ecology and Director of Numerical Terradynamics Simulation Group joined Inspired Classroom today to present to high school students in Rio de Janero, Brazil. Dr. Running discussed the five stages of climate grief with the students, answered questions about the global economic and environmental impact of climate change and career paths in environmental sciences. Dr. Running is a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 as part of the Indepartmental Panel on Climate Change.
The presentation was in preparation for the global AASSA conference entitled EnGINeering a Greener Future to be held later in October. This conference is sponsored by the Global Issues Network (GIN) and is a student led conference where student projects demonstrating empathetic action local communities is shared and celebrated.
Ryan Sagare, University of Montana alumna and teacher at the American School of Rio de Janero facilitated the discussion with the group of students. The presentation was recorded and will be used as part of a student led breakout session on problem solving climate change issues at the conference.
